About those vet bills and making gift subscriptions...my one prospective recipient turned down the offer as he is already deluged with magazines and web-based material. I am, however, happy to extend my subscription for another year or two of CG, though, I'm not sure how your system works -- is it possible to sign up and pay now for an extra year? Maybe you could write a how-to piece for us clueless substack dummies..
You are very, very kind. Something you could do that would be *hugely* appreciated by readers who aren't in great financial shape right now is donate subscriptions. I'll include a "donate subscriptions" button in the next newsletter, but you can also use the "Donate Subscriptions" button in this post: https://claireberlinski.substack.com/p/-global-eyes-sunday-review-674. Then I'll put up a post like this one explaining that we have subscriptions to give away thanks to a kind benefactor: https://claireberlinski.substack.com/p/would-you-like-a-gift-subscription/comments. These always get snapped up, and people are really grateful for them: If you live in a country whose currency is doing badly against the dollar, CG is prohibitively expensive--and many of our readers do. I don't like that and I wish I could charge more reasonable rates for people who live in, say, Tigray or Afghanistan. But Substack doesn't give me the option. So if you donate subscriptions, I can make those readers very happy, and of course I'd be delighted, too.
You can also become a "Founding Member" of CG: If you click the usual "Subscribe" button, you'll see the option. That gives you the right to commission an article on the topic of your choice, so if you have a particularly burning question, consider that option!
You're very kind to want to contribute and I greatly appreciate it.
Looking at those pictures: "Aww, there she is home from surgery." "Aww, look at them together." "Ack! Nonono why Claire? She went full 'Seven' on Suley...never mind, that's not a head in a box."
Do French vets let you administer fluids for CKD cats? I suppose it would depend on you and the cat’s nature if you can do it. It gave me probably 6 months more with one of my old lady cats in 2019, and I wished I’d started it sooner.
As I was reading this, Allegro, our younger cat, climbed into and curled up in a cardboard box on the floor. You are so right. I wanted to attach a photo, but Substack doesn’t allow that, I reckon. Needless to say, I think the thing Allegro likes best about the baby is the sheer amount of cardboard they generate, courtesy of Amazon, Buy-Buy Baby, etc.
To my surprise, it seems you're right. I was just looking at our stats this week, expecting to see that many people unsubscribed, frustrated that I hadn't posted anything serious in days. To my astonishment, I found that no one cancelled, and these kitty posts--which were meant to be an embarrassed apology for falling so far behind this week--have been more widely shared than many articles on which we've labored for *weeks.* That was awfully nice to see, if a bit puzzling. Maybe I should write more about my cats: I love to talk about them, but I usually assume no one but me would be interested.
It does seem as if our readers love animals too. That stands to reason. As I keep telling people, pridefully, our readers are the best on Substack. On all the Internet, really.

This got an actual laugh out of me.

Yes, they do, and I expect that's what I'll be advised to do.

And take your time with the tank article. You have kitties to nurse.
yep, we'd rather read about kitties than "Tankhi". Until you are ready to do the subject justice, anyway.

Awwww so cute. I have a cat too and she's awesome. Speedy recovery for your smols!
Seriously, right?
