Thank you for sharing your thoughts and reaction Rachel. It’s not every Sunday afternoon that one can be transported the Louvres and have a unique experience.
Beautifully written Rachel! Have had the privilege of seeing Michelangelo’s David and Pietà. I’m looking forward to seeing Mona Lisa when I visit Paris later this summer.
When we have friends visit us here in Paris, I tell them that the most interesting thing about the Mona Lisa is the line of people who are waiting to take a selfie.
Yes Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Michelangelo’s David are magnificent, but the most arresting work of art that I’ve ever seen in person is Michelangelo’s Pietà in Vatican City. It’s not just the artistry in stone, it’s the emotional content which The Pietà projects. I could look at it for hours. It was sculpted when Michelangelo was only 23 years old. Through his genuis, it’s as if The Pietà creates a liminal space between heaven and earth.
That was nice Rachel. Tks. I will probably never fight the crowds to see her but your description will do.

You'll love it! Just be ready to stand in line for a very, very long time.
We booked a Closing Time at the Louvre tour, so hoping the line will be a little better, but I’ll be prepared if it’s not.

Well said, WigWag, thank you. I agree: Michelangelo's Pietà manifests a "thin space."
Rachel’s homage to Mona Lisa was lovely. So was Nat King Cole’s. See,
