I'm a sucker, I had only just allowed my subscription to lapse, but this got me to resubscribe.

The media may not be covering themselves in glory in their approach to it, but there is every indication that the Epstein affair is a glimpse of a forbidden truth about the deep workings of western society.

If I seek an analogy, maybe it would be a discussion in China about the laboratory origins of Covid, or a discussion in Russia about domestic assassination programs. In Russia and China, those discussions would be driven entirely underground.

The West is freer but forbidden topics can still be marginalized and neutralized, if they are bad for the entire elite. We have learned that Trump, in the pursuit of power, is willing to touch third rail topics, only to drop them when actually exercising power. He just attempted that move with respect to the Epstein affair and that's why it's in the news again.

One may deplore that this distracts us from important things in the world and that's true. But it's not as if this is a "nothing burger". On the contrary, this is western society tying itself in knots as it tries not to trip over a forbidden truth about itself, while also staring at it in fascination.

In an effort to keep other current trends in mind, I asked Grok, what would MechaHitler think of the Epstein affair? But it answered blankly, as if it had no idea what I meant. Grok too, apparently just wants to move on.

So that explains it. I came back last weekend from a two week vacation in Spain and Portugal. I had intentionally disconnected from US news. I was puzzled when all the news coverage upon my return was about Epstein. What happened??? Some collective insanity? I thought Congress just passed the Big Beautiful Bill. And Trump realized a least for now that Putin has played him on Ukraine. And the tariff threats keep moving and shifting. And there is stuff happening in Syria. Silly me that I didn’t realize that the release of a decade old crime file clearly is more important than anything else happening in the world.

Some shallow journalists still waste our time on pseudo-issues, such as ongoing military instabilities in Ukraine, Gaza, Taiwan, and Sudan, or global economic weakness, or growing totalitarian leaders, or AI and cyberwarfare, or nuclear and biological warfare. Luckily, our trusted mainstream journalists keep us laser-focused on what matters most: Epstein and his birthday parties.

But where are the apologists going to debase themselves if you don't give them the space to comment?

So, if you post, it's gotta be an Epstein piece? O-kaaaay....

Did you cook this whole "Directive" thing up to give yourself the weekend off? Really?

How very selfish of you, Claire! You know that Saturday is my prime CosGlob reading time, don't you? Don't make me look at the stuff piled up in my inbox!!

Claire -- I beg you, please defy the Memo-Writer's Central Directorate and post an article -- any article -- on a Non-Epstein topic.

Puh-leease???
