I suppose it's too late, but I would have asked what they knew about attempts at development in South Vietnam, both native and US-encouraged. I'm sure we tried something; I read that we backed a land redistribution program.
Also, what exactly are the threats to Mekong conservation?
Oh good. Also, daily life as an infantryman - did they keep him supplied? What sort of things tended to go wrong? What things tended to break? Was combat frequent, low- or high-intensity, light arms or heavier stuff? What were the sergeants and officers like?
About the VOC - what kind of infrastructure did they build? What sort of military strategy let them become suzerain over such a large territory? How did they manage pirates? Do the Netherlands and Indonesia still keep a closer relationship?
I would like to hear a podcast of this as well. I was too young to pay close attention at the time, but I clearly remember my parents discussing the Vietnam War. Father was a veteran of WW2 and Korea, and mother was Dutch; raised in Holland during the occupation. I remember they could get quite animated. Listening to a discussion that touch on that time, including the collapse in American self confidence would be a pleasure. Thanks for the offer.
I would love to listen to a podcast with them if you can arrange it. Also, it would be great if you could notify CG readers when the ebook comes out and the best way to access it.
Enjoy your lunch. Would love to be a fly on the wall for such a stimulating interaction. Southeast Asia is at the top of my “must visits”.......my main request would be figuring out the top 2 or 3 must see’s and the best time of year to visit. Podcast idea is a great one!

Not too late! Alan is going to join us later for a podcast. (It was a bit too noisy to record it yesterday.)

Looking forward to it. Learning about Project 100,000 dramatically changed the way I think about our founding documents.
