Claire: Good evening everyone and welcome Vladislav. Vladislav is here to co- host with me tonight. Vlad, how you doing? Where are you?

Vlad: I’m okay. I’m in New York and as soon as I get off the phone with you, I’m flying to Moldova to look at the situation with the plebiscite on joining the European Union, which will take place on the 20th of October. And it’s not a great thing.

Claire: Why?

“The West is not serious. It’s just not serious.”

Vlad: Because plebiscites are silly because the population is silly. Let me backtrack and explain this a little bit. The European Union has graciously extended maps for entrance to Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova, three former Soviet republics, all of which to one degree or another, want to get the hell out of the Russian sphere of influence. And understandably, based on how the Russians behave, right? So the Moldovans have a pro-American, pro-Ukrainian, pro Western government led by this feisty little lady by the name of Maria Sandu, who’s a very great lady and a very great politician and may very well be someone important in the world. Maybe she’ll be a secretary general of NATO or the United Nations or one day. I have my money on her.

“They are deathly afraid of nuclear war, and they’re even more afraid of what happens if the Russians lose.”

Claire: Yeah. She’s impressive.

Vlad: Very impressive lady. What’s not great is that thinking that the population is more or less overwhelmingly pro European, they gave this silly plebiscite to the population on whether they want to join the European Union.
