Claire—I spent yesterday and the day before writing an introduction to Marxism, poststructuralism, and postmodernism in International Relations theory, amusing myself greatly in the process. I was about to send it out last night when I saw the news of the massacre in Texas and I lost my eagerness to laugh. What I’d written seemed tone-deaf.
So I’m going to hold on to that for a day or so. I’ll send out the regular Global Eyes newsletter later today.
I wrote the article below on the occasion of another mass shooting in the United States. There have been so many that every journalist has a selection of columns at hand to recycle whenever there’s another one. I don’t think I have much to add, save to say what everyone’s saying: There’s something wrong with us.
I’ll send out Global Eyes later today. The world continues to spin.
