A French teacher in Arras has been killed in a knife attack. A tech officer is in critical condition, and another teacher has been seriously injured.
The assailant is a former student and a Russian citizen of Chechen origin whom the DGSI was “actively monitoring.” That’s to say, he was “Fiché S,” or security-filed, the designation given to someone believed to be a threat but impossible to arrest because he’s not yet committed a crime. (Inevitably, when there’s a terrorist attack in France, the terrorist or terrorists proves to be Fiché S.)
He was arrested shortly afterward along with his brother, who spent 18 months in prison for “relaying Daesh’s remarks,” Figaro reports. It’s not yet known whether his brother was involved in the attack. The national anti-terrorist prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for murder in connection with a terrorist organization.
