Chris Armitage at The Existential Republic has written dozens of essays detailing concrete actions by citizens that can mobilize state politicians to use their independent powers to throw up legal roadblocks that can stop criminal federal overreach. Federalism is the way! I’m linking one recent post, but get familiar with his entire roster of “soft secession” techniques and start calling your state officers and legislators. The day ICE shot and killed a woman *following their orders to leave* is a good one to start. Minnesota will be prosecuting that agent, and your state can do likewise if we insist on our state laws.
But what can we do? WHERE ARE ALL THE ADULTS???? Both the Republicans and the Democrats have completely obliterated themselves through their own actions. Everyone went too far right AND too far left and no one seems to want to come to the middle.
Stephen Miller is just an evil, evil little man whose lack of height and hair seems to only further his attempts to feel like a big man (and drastically fails every time but unfortunately his words have consequences for everyone else). Did you see the story about Jan 6 rioters five years on in the NYT yesterday? Some of them STILL think there is a conspiracy going and are now angry at Trump for not revealing it! No one appears to want to think critically and I think the loss of that skill has done massive disservice to the US and also to other democracies. My Japanese friend warned me about the impact of the decline in this mode of thinking several years ago and she was absolutely right.
Claire - I first found you through a conversation you had with Steve. I would hope that the two of you - maybe with Dan - could engage in another conversation.
