This might be the best possible start to 2026. A freer Iran (even in the chaotic aftermath of regime change) would be a blessing to the world.

To me, this is an "even broken clocks are right twice a day" moment. I hope that the protests can be fueled with the comments without the necessity of any military action by the US - merely because the US no one competent to think this through at all. We know the word "bombing" and that is it.

They won't succeed without our help. We'll just see brutal repression and tens of thousands more young people hanged.

The problem is Trump does not care about the Iranian people, he just hates the Iranian government. Trump is also very susceptible to flattery and bribes, so if the Iranian rulers are smart (as opposed to simply evil), they will flatter Trump while they slaughter those Iranians who dare to openly oppose the government. I hope the Iranian protesters succeed, but (pardon my cynicism), I would not count on Trump to actually help them.
