I think it might have been through the CG that I heard about the connection between the disappearance of foreign desks and the decidedly downward spiral of reportage on foreign affairs. Asia Times *Online* has had a rather interesting trajectory over the years. It was probably most interesting when Pepe Escobar and David "Spengler" Goldman were its best known contributors. I think it's changed ownership and ideological tone, more than once, since those days.
But to have worked at the *original* Asia Times? And for that to be your *first* job in journalism? That's like having been a regular at some cafe, *before* it came to host a famous salon.
